A RESTORATION OF SENSIBILITY IN THE FINGERS BY NEUROVASCULAR ISLAND FLAP

Abstract
|
|
|
The skin defect of fingers, especially thumb & radial aspect of index finger, created a problem for its replacement with suitable skin, having a sensory nerve to restore optimimum sensation. In many techniques which developed to restore sensation of the injuried fingers, the neurovascular island flap was known to be most acceptable procedure.
Authors performed neurovascular island flap for injuried fingers were 10 cases since Aug. 1983 to Oct. 1986.
We followed up the patients form 2 months to 3 years. The results were follows;
1. The donor was obtained form the ulnar side of middle finger in 8 cases of ring figer in 2 cases.
2. Recovery of protective sensation such as touch, sharp/blunt discrimination,
temperature was good.
3. Recovery of 2 point discrimination was good in 5 cases and poor in 5 cases.
4. Reorientation was recovered in 2 cases.
5. Cold intolernce was developed in 3 cases.
